Memorial Day Weekend

Written by: Laura Walter

All I can say is Jon & Kate Marathon!!! I LOVE this show and my heart goes out to the Gosselin's no matter what is going on in their personal lives we all don't need to be a part of it.

Anyway Memorial Day weekend...we got a lot done around the house. On Saturday I spent all day cutting back bushes and pulling weeds. If you think that sounds exciting just think of Sunday where I raked up all the crazy leaves that found their way on the far side of the pool throughout the winter. Once the leaves were raked and picked up I took the shovel and turned all the soil around the pool and in the flower bed next to the house. How funny it is I did not do much in the front yard, the place everyone sees. The great news is Don and I have figured out what we are doing for edging for the flower beds. We are going to do stone in the front with retainer wall stones and just a rubber edging in the back. You may be wondering what was Don doing while I worked by butt off in the yard...well he opened the pool. This was a LARGE task since our pool cover flew off half way through the winter. When backwashing the pump the water came out a rust color. GROSS!

Monday was suppose to be the day to sit by the pool and relax...then came the rain :) Instead I spent all day watching CSI Miami and Jon and Kate + 8!!! I also accomplished things today. I did spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I finally went to the grocery store since getting back from vacation a week ago so I figured it was time to thaw meat and get dinners ready. So today I coated ribs with mustard and the special seasoning to get it ready for Don to cook sometime this week (Don makes GREAT ribs). I also cooked up some chicken to either put in pasta or Chinese food later this week. The last thing I created in the kitchen was a pretty good burger. I mixed hamburger with jalapeƱo, shallots, green onions, garlic, and Frank's Red Hot Sauce. This burger ended up being pretty good with pepper jack cheese and a hot sauce mayo...yummy. The only thing I would change next time I make the burger...more heat.

So the question of the month...how is Don's job search going? He has been putting in resumes and has a phone interview tomorrow. The job is advertised as part time, but it would be more than what he can make on unemployment. Since Don is now officially unemployed he can go collect unemployment, and has started looking into it. I hope he finds something soon...I am getting jealous of him being at home. I always wanted to be the stay at home person not him :)

So what is to come this week? Momma and Dad are coming up Thursday and Friday with Ella. Dad is going to finish our basement with Don. We have a small water issue in the basement that Dad started working on quite some time ago and he is coming back to finish it. While he is fixing the basement Mom will be at UPA with me. She has agreed to help me out with a marketing DVD. My mom is really talented in putting together these sorts of things. What is Ella going to do? Who knows my guess is not hang out with Uncle Don. Don is a great uncle and will be a wonderful dad someday, but he is still a little frightened by kids.
