My Car
Written by: Laura Walter
I am getting really sick of things going all screwy lately. The same day Don lost his job his Explorer lost its air conditioning. That is annoying, but can be dealt with. Well a couple weeks ago we were driving my car home from Bluffton when all the sudden we were on the side of the road. Well if you know anything about my husband's driving record you would have done what I did...look around for the police lights assuming we were getting pulled over. Just to clarify Don has not been pulled over in nearly two years now, but I felt it was still a good guess. So the question now is why in the world are we on the side of the road. The answer: my car decided to stop accelerating and the warning lights flashed on. At this time we turned the car off and tried to restart it. Eureka the car started and everything was fine. We decided it was time to get off on the next exit and check the car out. Since the oil light was one of the lights that flashed we decided to check the oil...it was FULL. After a quick lunch at Taco Bell we checked the oil again and set off on our our merry way. Well a couple miles down the road we were on the side of the road again! Luckily we made it all the way home after this mishap; however when I called my dad to get his opinion on our problem he was adorable letting me know if we needed him he would find a tow dolly and take care of us. It was at this time I reminded him we pay for AAA for a reason:) Anyway after a stressful ride home hoping not only to make it home but holding our breath through construction where there was no where to pull over we took the car into the shop. Seeing we have never really had issues with my car in the past we do not have a mechanic in Cincinnati so we take it to the GM dealer. These yahoos had the car for two days and have NO IDEA what was wrong with it. After driving the car around they could not get it to "reproduce its issues." The mechanic did say the computer alluded there could be problems with the passlock sensor and ignition switch. Neither really sounded like it would have been the cause of our issue. Due to this uncertainty with my car we opted not to go to NC for a good friend's wedding because we did not want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere. Did you know they filmed the movie deliverance in the northwest corner of NC not far from where we use to live. Anyway back on subject. I have been driving the Explorer to work the last few weeks due to the fact I refuse to be stranded in rush hour traffic on the interstate. I will not be the person who clogs up traffic on the bridge because my car breaks down. Since I have been driving Don's vehicle he has taken my car for his short excursions around town. Today was the first time he took my car anywhere really. Well on his way to the Bengal's signing at Paul Brown Stadium he called me to let me know he is pretty sure the breaks are going out on my car. Apparently he did not feel safe having to slam on the breaks to get it to slow down at all. In short we have two cars...one with a window taped up and no ac, and the other may have bad breaks and a bad fuel pump. And to make things even better, our gutter is starting to fall off our house. Julie at work called me a hillbilly...can't blame her right now.
