Gas for 6.75

Written by: Laura Walter

All I can say is my husband LOVES me! Because I am crazy with saving money at the grocery store and clipping all my coupons I have inadvertently saved us big bucks at the gas pump!

Since we have moved to Villa Hills I have always done my grocery shopping at the store down the street. Although the selection is not always the biggest they have good prices and have been doing the 10 for $10 thing longer than Kroger.

About a month and a half ago Don told me the grocery store on the south side of Florence was doing a triple coupon weekend. Well I could hardly wait to save $1.50 on a $.50 coupon...yes I am crazy but I get a huge sense of accomplishment when I can save at least 25% of my grocery bill. I did not expect to really start going to Biggs to shop. I have a Remke a few blocks away that I really enjoy. However, once I got into the Hypermarket that is Biggs of Florence I was estatic. First of all when you walk into the grocery store they have a vending machine that gives coupons! Some items that are in the store ad have coupons in the vending machine to go with them. After the ad prince and the coupon you are sometimes paying less than $.50 for stuff! They also amazing perks programs. One is a milk thing. For every gallon of milk you buy you get a point, after so many points (I think it is 8) you get a free gallon of milk. They have the same thing with 1/2 gallons and soy milk. Biggs also has a special section in the produce department where you can pick any 5 items for $9.99 and there is usually 30 things to choose from. In the meat department they have an entire section of 5 items for $19.99. Then they have pump perks...how we got gas for $.33/gallon...For every $10 you spend at the store you receive $.01 off gas. Then throughout the store you will see yellow tags on items. These tags are the additional amounts of money off gas you will get for buying that item. For example I typically buy the same brand of flour tortillas every time I go they are a couple bucks a package. The tortillas I typically buy sometimes have a yellow tag to save an additional $.02/gallon; however since I started shopping at Biggs I have been buying the store brand not only are they half the cost but I get something like $.05/gallon off gas! In two trips to the grocery store I have saved more money than I have before and we earned enough pump perks to get gas today for $.33/gallon. We filled up the explorer for $6.75!

This is why my husband loves me. I can save us some crazy money all by being thrifty!
