Girls Day...
Written by: Laura Walter
On Tuesday my sisters came to Cincy to visit me and have a girl's day.
It all started because my niece needed a hair cut BAD! Ella agreed to get her hair cut next time she came down to visit me. For some reason she got it stuck in her head that if she got her hair cut she would look like a boy and people would make fun of her. Who knew pre-school was so brutal (although Ella is just as much a bully as the next kid).
With the need for this 4 year old to get her hair cut, her mom decided it would be fun to make a day of it. Since Sarah just graduated she had some time on her hands. All it took was to convince Melinda she needed to visit. Although this was suppose to be a girls day it was Don (or X as Mel affectionately refers to him) who convinced Melinda to visit.
The crew got her Monday afternoon where we just hung out around the house. It was Tuesday we spent the day getting beautiful... The day started at the nail salon (after pancakes of course). I am sure we were a sight at the nail salon, three adults, a 4 year old, and a 5 month old. Now Eli did not get his nails done, but Ella got a manicure. This crazy chick could not decide on one color of nail polish so one hand had red polish and the other had purple. Only a 4 year old can get away with this insanity! There were four people working and about ten people in the salon at one time. It was CRAZY! We all had a great time getting manicures and have a date before Florida to get pedicures. It was all we could do to keep Ella away from the pedi area. She wanted the whole treatment (even asked to get her eyebrows waxed). Sarah is going to have her hands full when this child is a teenager!
After our morning in the nail salon we met Don next door and had pizza. After this Don and Melinda took off to the Reds Hall of Fame Museum. If you have not been here and have a chance it is well worth it! The rest of us retreated back to my house for some Disney Princess I Spy and some R&R before our haircuts at 5.
As I said earlier Ella was not keen on getting her hair cut for fear of looking like a boy. Her problem was that her hair was so long and nappy she needed a hair cut. Ella was nervous so I got my hair done first. After I got my hair cut Ella said she wanted her hair to be done like mine. How do you explain to a 4 year old her hair can't look like mine since she does not have curly hair? I am pretty sure she got it, but her first thought was it is the hair cut :) Ella got the whole treatment at this haircut. This was the first time she got her hair washed before getting it cut. And as I am sure you know...this is the BEST part of getting your hair cut! At the end of the day she got about 3 inches cut off and her hair is still plenty long.
We had such a great day and it was so funny to see Ella get so excited to be "beautiful". When we got home Sarah had to announce Ella and I to Don and Melinda so we could show off our hair and nails. She is such a goof ball!
